You can view Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and PDFs that have been uploaded, directly in Fuse using the document viewer.
Currently, Fuse comes with two document viewers:
- New document viewer: Allows you to open and view open XML Microsoft files directly in Fuse, including DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX, and PDF.
- Legacy document viewer: Allows you to view older, non-open XML Microsoft files directly in Fuse, including DOC, XLS, PPT, and PDF.
If both the legacy and new document viewers are enabled at the same time, the following will occur:
- If you upload a non-open XML Microsoft file, Fuse automatically defaults to the legacy document viewer.
- If you upload an open XML Microsoft file, Fuse automatically defaults to the new document viewer.

Replacing older Microsoft files with open XML versions
DOC, XLS, and PPT files cannot be viewed in the new document viewer. If you have existing DOC, XLS, and PPT files in Fuse, we recommended replacing them with open XML versions.
When you update an existing file with a new version, the Fuse content ID associated with that file remains the same.
This can be done in the following way:
- Download the DOC, XLS, or PPT file from Fuse.
Save it as a PPTX, XLSX or DOCX on your computer.
For example, if the file is a DOC file, save it as a DOCX.
- On the content homepage for the original file, click Edit.
The Edit content screen appears. - In the Update content with a new file section, click Choose file, and select the newly saved PPTX, XLSX or DOCX file.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save.
The file is updated and replaced with the open XML version.
Legacy document viewer
The legacy document viewer allows you to view older non-open XML Microsoft files directly in Fuse, including DOC, XLS, and PPT, and PDFs.
The legacy document viewer comes with the following options:
Option | Description |

Toggle sidebar | Allows you to quickly navigate to different pages, titles, and sections within the file. Toggle sidebar contains the following options:

Find in Document () | Allows you to search for key words and phrases within the file. To search within a file:
You can browse to the location of each instance of the keyword or phrase, using the arrows next to the search bar. You can also apply filters, including Highlight all, Match case, and Whole words. |
