When you first upload a video, Fuse automatically adds English transcriptions which users can view as subtitles on top of the video. If you are the content owner or an admin, you can upload additional transcriptions, as well as edit existing ones on video's Edit content screen.

You can also display the transcripts beside the video and specify jump points which enable users to skip ahead to certain points in the video, by enabling the Display "Jump to" tab option. For more information, see Using the "Jump to" tab

Automatically generated transcriptions

When you upload a video to Fuse, the video is processed and automatically transcribed. The transcriptions extracted are turned into subtitles which can be played on top of the video. 

The transcription functionality in Fuse only has the ability to translate Audio to English

If a video has been transcribed, a Last converted date is displayed, as shown below:

 If the video has not transcribed automatically, click Convert on the Edit content screen, to manually trigger the transcription. 

Uploading your own video transcriptions

If you have pre-made transcriptions, you can add them directly to the video, by uploading an .SRT file. For example, you might want also want to have subtitles in German, French, Spanish, Italian and so on. 

When uploading .SRT files, you must use the correct naming convention. The file must be named with the correct language code, as shown in Fuse's supported languages list. For example, if you were uploading an .SRT file which included French subtitles, the file must be named "fr-FR". 

To upload an .SRT file:

  1. On the Edit content screen for your video, click Add a subtle file.
  2. Locate and select the .SRT file on your computer. 
  3. Click Open.
    The .SRT file is added.
  4. (Optional) If necessary, you can alter the label so that it is more human readable.  For example, you might change fr-FR to Francais
  5. At the bottom of the screen. click Save

    The subtitles are added to the video and can be selected in the Closed Captions menu, in the Fuse Player settings. 

If you want to upload your own English language subtitles, you must delete the auto-created English language SRT before uploading your own.

Editing transcriptions 

You can edit the text in transcriptions directly in Fuse.

To edit a transcription:

  1. On the Edit content screen, in the Subtitles section, click the Edit icon next to the relevant transcript file. 

    The Edit transcript popup appears. 
  2. You can edit, add and remove text from any of the lines in the transcript. 
  3. When you have finished making any necessary alterations, click Save.

Selecting subtitles

To show subtitles on a video: 

  1. Go to the Content homepage for the video. 
  2. Play the video.
  3. On the Fuse Player, click the Settings icon. 
  4. Click the Closed Captions icon.
  5. Select the relevant language. 

    The subtitles are display on the video.
